Super Bowl Breakdown

So here's what I think since I watch football with dad all the time:

The Arizona Cardinals have been a surprise but it should be the end of the road for them in this game. Kurt Warner is a nice story but he will be on his back most of the day and will be flushed out of the pocket often. If he can endure that kind of abuse the Steelers are in trouble. Because Larry Fitzgerald is the key to the Cards offense and when Warner has time, Fitzgerald is his guy and he'll be tough to cover. So the Pittsburgh defense is much more important to their game plan than the offense is.

Ben Rothlesburger simply needs to not beat himself. Willie Parker should try to control the ball on the ground and if they can establish the run to set up the pass, then the Steelers should have an easy time if the defense plays their usual stellar game.

So I'm going with the Steelers here but I think the Cardinals will at least play well enough to be in the game for a half. Final Score:

Steelers 38
Cardinals 21

Dad gives me a busy buddy football toy (pictured) all the time--which is a toy that you put treats in and your dog has to figure out how to get the treats out. I'm pretty good at getting my venison treats out of the larger slot but the smaller one keeps me busy for some time.

So enjoy the big game. Dad will be in Ohio for the game, so pray for safe travel. Sorry we won't be able to watch the game together, I just hope mom doesn't put a Hallmark movie on instead!

Why do some people have dogs?

So dad is walking on 57th Street and sees a man with a boarder collie. The boarder collie squats to take a pee (not my preferred way of doing that--but hey it takes all kinds) and the owner is pulling the dog across the street completely unaware that the dog is relieving himself.

I don't know how that dog suddenly stopped peeing but he managed. Dumb human. That's so rude! He's too busy talking on his cell phone to see that his dog is um...busy.

I hope that dog gets to pee in your shoes Mr. Man. And when he does you'll wonder why and probably even call him a bad dog--which is something humans should never say to dogs. It doesn't help and it certainly doesn't make the likes of me want to obey.

We dogs are just too cool for obedience school...we might go and make y'all think you've got us in your control but it is all a ruse so you'll keep feeding us.

From Mom and Dad

Mom and Dad wrote me a nice note that I thought I'd share with you:

Dear Haze,

We just got back from our retreat and we found out that our marriage has really grown over the years but we really thought about how close we've become since you became our dog. We have not had children in our marriage for whatever reason and so we've been very happy to have someone else to love besides one another.

You've been such a good dog and have allowed us to work on our marriage in a new way--being a team that has to take care of you has allowed us to grow in a new way and the unconditional love that you show to us give us the opportunity to strive for a more perfect love that has no conditions either. We call that the kind of love that God shows to all of us.

So thank you for being our dog and for all the love you have shown us. There's a special treat that awaits you tonight.

Love,
Mom and Dad

The snausages were awesome!

Attack of the Killer Unleashed Dog

I had a great weekend while mom and dad were away on their retreat. Aunt Rebbecca a friend of mom and dad's dog-sat for me and we had fun.

We went to the park and some unleashed dog decided he wanted to confront me and so Aunt Rebbecca made me run away with her. But the dog persisted and started to chase us. Aunt Rebbecca is pretty fast though and we narrowly escaped.

While Aunt Rebbecca has a cat at home, she was a very cool dog sitter and she let me sleep with her so I'm a pretty happy dog today. I hope she had as good of a time as I did.

Separation Anxiety: What can you do?

So mom and dad got their friend Rebecca to sit for me this weekend while they go away together on a marriage retreat to the beautiful Mt. St. Alphonsus--which would be a nice place for me to go and run in the snow, by the way--but the dog bigots run the place, so I'm out.

Perhaps that's a bit harsh, they have rules and I'm sure somebody there is a nice owner of a dog in their home but some dogs are not like me and they pee everywhere. Oh wait, hold on, that's exactly like me!

Rebecca will be staying at my house so I'm comfy. But I wonder what other people do when they have to leave their pets alone? I can't go to a kennel because I don't like other dogs. So mom and dad often leave me with a friend or figure something out so I'm not alone.

Now I'm also alone for a good part of the day when mom and dad go to work and I end up being by myself for most of the afternoon. Dad usually is the last one out so he gives me a nice belly rub before he leaves and then gives me treats in my "busy buddy" and walks out the door. I kinda look forward to him leaving now because I know I'm going to get a treat. They also leave the TV on for me and I hear human voices all day and it confuses me and makes me think someone's home. I can relax and sleep on the couch most of the day then.

Dad wants to set up "Haze cam" soon and put a webcamera in the house so he can check in on me from time to time.

What do y'all do with your pets when you leave?

Go Barack Go!

I watched President Obama get sworn in with much glee today at home by myself. I'm still wondering what kind of dog will be greeting them at the White House?

I'd be a lucky dog if those two adorable little girls were my pals. But I'm lucky already. I hope they rescue a nice lab or something.

My Calling Card ..Don't Leave Home Without It

So Dad's friends Beth and Jeff called to say that they wanted to come by and visit in about two weeks. She had forgotten to update her phone numbers for mom and dad so she had a hard time finding their numbers and ended up calling a bunch of wrong numbers.

How'd she find the right one? She found my business card for this blog that dad made up for me and it listed our number on it.

Her comment: "I was so happy that I found that Haze the Dog business card otherwise I'd never have been able to find you guys."

Reminder: Cats are dumb...and annoying

It's time to go to sleep, you stupid cat!

I sometimes get to sleep with mom and dad and I just curl up next to one of their legs and sleep soundly until sunup. While I'm an early riser they don't seem to mind and we take naps together on the couch too.

Elephant's Best Friend?

Deacon Greg is going to get a slew of hat tips today for a few great videos the first comes from CBS News where Tara and Bella an elephant and dog take center stage:

Watch CBS Videos Online

What's man's excuse indeed? Maybe a friend like this is what will help me get over my fear of other dogs and horses?

And speaking of dogs and elephants:

From the Greatest American Dog Tv show--the smallest dog of all was the one that didn't move when they started the elephant charge.

Mom and Dad's Wedding Song

I like watching them dance to this at home from time to time. They seem to be able to keep the romance alive even after almost 7 years. Sing it, Frankie!

Dog Hottie

OK--here's my latest crush. I'm partial to beagles as many of you know. French Poodles are such Eurotrash and after my Cockerpoo stage (people have filthy minds) I have decided to opt for a more sedate breed. Those chicks are nuts but man were they fun for awhile.

Rosie the beagle is the dog of Jarrad and Linda (you remember them--Jarrad works with dad) by way of Texas. He's their "home" doggie, meaning he lives with their family in their old home. And man is she ever cute! Those ears, those sad eyes, longing to have a belly rub...Oh if only I could be deep in the....heart of Texas! (Again filthy minded people were thinking something else). The heat, the sun, I'd just lie out all day and maybe occasionally share a water dish with Rosie and then watch some tv. Maybe we play a game of "Hey I've been fixed...so what's the big deal?"

Regardless, Dad became her facebook friend so now I guess I have to get a page too!

Happy New Year

It is absolutely freezing in New York and that makes me hide under the covers or snuggle with Mom and Dad. I hate going out in the cold because I end up looking silly--like how I looked here on a cold Christmas morning. But it has given me time to make my New Year's Resolutions:

The Top 10 Haze Hayes Chihuahua resolutions.

1) Stop barking at other dogs (yeah, right)
2) Lose 4 oz.
3) Curl up more with Mom on the couch.
4) Come to work with Dad more to see Jarrad and Brittany.
5) Blog more often.
6) Eat breath saver dog biscuits.
7) Expose the Dog Whisperer as a fraud.
8) Watch more Hockey and Football with Dad in the winter and baseball in the summer.
9) Visit Grandma and Grandpa and not pee in their house.

AND THE FINAL HAZE HAYES RESOLUTION IS:

10) To lick dad's bald head at least twice a day.
